Mary Cherniski

Of Greensboro, GA, formerly of Claymont, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 22, 2012, at the age of 93 at Boswell Parker Health & Rehabilitation in Greensboro.

Mary devoted her life to being a loving, caring wife and mother and a wonderful homemaker. She liked to dance and give hugs and those images of her will be a happy, lasting memory to all who knew her. Mary will be dearly missed.

Mary was born on March 24, 1919, in Chester, PA, to the late Catherine and Louis Fatzinick. She married Andrew Cherniski in 1940, and they moved with their family to Claymont, DE, in 1950 where they lived in the home Andrew built. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Claymont for more than 40 years.

In 2006 Mary moved to Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA, with her daughter, Pat, to be closer to the rest of her family. She enjoyed the relaxing life at the lake, the many family gatherings, and she adored her great-grandchildren. She attended the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Greensboro.

In addition to her mother and father, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; daughter, Diane Rineer; brothers, Peter Fatzinick and Michael Fatzinick; and sisters, Ann Ferguson and Eve Twomey.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Chapman of Greensboro, GA, and Katherine Calhoun and husband Richard of Greensboro, GA; son, Michael Cherniski and wife Janice of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren, Susan Pope and husband Nick of Suwanee, GA, and Linda Downey and husband Chad of Buford, GA; great-grandchildren, George and Jillian Pope and Elle and Emre Downey; son-in-law, Bill Rineer of Greensboro, GA; and sister, Kathryn Laskowski of Wilmington, DE.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, at 1 pm at the Church of the Ascension, 3717 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, with The Rev. Edward E. Godden officiating. Members of Mary's family will receive guests after the service in the church hall. Mary will be interred next to her husband at Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mary's name to the Church of the Ascension, Claymont, DE.
