US Congressman. Born and raised when West Virginia was still part of Virginia, Snodgrass was educated in Berkeley County, studied law, won admission to the bar in 1843 and began a practice in Parkersburg. He was a Delegate to the 1850-1851 Virginia constitutional convention. In 1852 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat and served part of one term, March 4, 1853 until his death. Snodgrass died suddenly while in court arguing a case. There is also a cenotaph in his honor at Washington, DC's Congressional Cemetery.
