Obituary, Obituary, Chadwick Funeral Service (New London, NH), 31 Jan 2012:

January 28, 2012. Howard Arthur Baxter died today at his home in New London, New Hampshire. He was 96. Carrol Addis Baxter, his wife of 72 years, was at his side.

Mr. Baxter was born in 1915 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and held an engineering degree from Iowa State University. He worked for Bell Laboratories in New York City, Hughes Aircraft and AMF through the 50's and 60's and eventually retired from the Labs in 1978. During WWII, he designed radar systems that are still used on ships today. He also designed equipment used to bury trans-oceanic telephone cable.

Mr. Baxter was passionate about technical work, aviation, automobiles, woodworking and numerous other activities that he introduced to his family along the way. He loved traveling and exploring new places in all parts of the world. He delighted in sharing his experiences and was a frequent speaker in the area. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by five children: Karen Cooper and husband Thomas of New London NH, Kendra Gemmett and husband Robert, of Rye NH, Linda Baxter Lasco of Paducah KY, George Addis Baxter and wife Susan of Hellertown PA, and Howard Arthur Jr., of Foxboro MA; twelve grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held by the family at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 336, New London NH 03257. Chadwick Funeral Service of New London is assisting the family with arrangements.
