FRANKLIN HAWKINS

Moriches-Franklin Hawkins, the oldest inhabitant of Moriches, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Webster Robinson on Wednesday night, April 2, aged exactly 88 years and 6 months. He had been ill about two weeks and death seems to have come as the culminating effect of several ailments with no will to contend them. Up to within a brief period he had worked regularly at the agricultural tasks accompanying a small farm and bringing to his work the enthusiasm of one who loves his labor. The night that he died, almost his last words were: "God is good." Funeral services were held in the M. P. Church on Sunday afternoon at 2 p. m., Rev. William Bowen officiating. His short message had for its subject the Prophet Elijah's parting words to Elisha. By request Mr. Bowen sang "The Name of Jesus" accompanied by J. L. Havens at the organ. Mr. Havens also sang afer the sermon, "Abide With Me," by request of the mourning friends. The church was filled with the numerous relatives and friends of the deceased, some of whom came a long distance to do honor to this patient, faithful Christian neighbor. In the words of the preacher, may his mantle fall on some one else who shall follow him in good works and Christian living. Covered with sweet flowers and under the sunny skies of this April Sabbath, his remains were laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant cemetery and even his devoted daughters are glad that his sufferings are over and eternal years of peace begun. Franklin Hawkins was one of the several sons of Elihu Hawkins and is survived by one brother, Sidney Hawkins, and two half brothers, Edwin and William Hawkins and two daughters, Mrs. Webster Robinson and Mrs. Alice Williamson, two grandchildren, Frank Baker and Mrs. Joseph Munsell and two great grandchildren, Lilia Munsell and Sherwood Baker. Mr. Hawkin's wife who was Miss Lois Raynor of Manorville, died several years ago

NOTE: He apparently went by his middle name "Franklin". Also, the death date in this clipping is off by a day.
