Loraine E. Ceaglske, 86, 2929 St. Anthony Dr., died on Armed Forces Day, May 16, 1998. She was born Dec. 30, 1911 in Merrill, Wis., to the late Adolph and Martha (Rusch) Ceaglske. She lived the early part of her life in Manitowoc. In February of 1938 she joined the Navy Nurses Corps. Loraine was the Chief Naval Nurse aboard the hospital ship, USS Solace, at Pearl Harbor when duty during the first offensive attack on Guadal Canal. Loraine also served during the U.S. Victories in the Coral Seas. She was awarded the Defense Ribbon and Campaign Bar for her service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. In September of 1950 she was honorably discharged with the rank of Lt. Commander. Loraine spent the remainder of her nursing career serving veterans in V.A. hospitals.

She is survived by a niece and her husband, Karen and Daniel Neveau, Allouez; five grand-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by twin brothers, August and Gustave Ceaglske, and a nephew, David Ceaglske.

A memorial service will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2132 Deckner Ave., on Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald Harswick officiating. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
