Charles R. Bast, near Braddock Heights, died yesterday at the Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs following an illness of several years. He was 52.
The son of the late William F. and Sue (Fletcher) Bast, he was born at Boonsboro and for a number of years conducted a funeral home at Hancock. Prior to that, he managed a funeral home in Silver Spring and was formerly employed by the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Church in New York City.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jean (White) Bast; sisters, Mrs. E. G. Miller and Mrs. Gwen Miller, both of Boonsboro, and Miss Madeline Bast, Washington; and brothers, John H. and Gerald D., both of Boonsboro.
The body was removed to the Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro, where services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Henry M. Raynal of Berkeley Springs officiating. Interment will be in the Boonsboro Mausoleum.
