Garden City Resident Dies

Mrs. Evelyn (Hilda) Hartley, 74, widow of the late Robert Hartley, died at a Webster hospital late Monday, June 19.

Services were Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Garden City Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Voas officiated. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery in Clark.

Ralph Maynard was the soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Maynard.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Bell, Merle Hartley, Donald Nelson, Harold Hartley, Milo Loomis and James Young.

Mrs. Hartley was born March 23, 1893 in Clark County, the daughter of Carl and Bertha Anderson Johnson. She married Robert Ford Hartley on October 24, 1914, at Watertown. Mr. Hartley died April 15, 1962.

Mrs. Hartley lived in the Clark area until her marriage, moving in 1919 to Jud, N.D., where she and her husband farmed. In 1932 they returned to Garden City, where she has since made her home.

She was affiliated with the Methodist Church at Garden City, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are four sons, Ralph and Lloyd of Garden City, Carroll and Harold of Jud, N.D.; one sister, Mrs. Fred Schmidt, Clark: and one brother, Carl of Ashby, Minn.; 14 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, June, one son, Walter, three sisters and one brother.
