Kay was born Feb. 25, 1918, in Red Fork, Okla., to George and Ethyl Beauchamp. She missed her 94th birthday by only 28 days. She had been lovingly married to Victor Gates for 50 plus years at the time of his passing in 1992. Kay was employed while Victor served in WWII and continued to work supporting the family while he was in college, until his graduation from Cal Tech.
Throughout Victor's career Kay was primarily a homemaker, however occasionally worked as desired. Together Kay and Victor traveled the world enjoying countless adventures. Some of the countries they lived in included Spain, Kwajalein Island and Saudi Arabia. Together they took every opportunity to explore every corner of this earth and visited literally dozens of countries in their travels. They also made many lifelong friends along the way.
Kay is survived by her only child, Opal Root of Ventura, grandchildren, Carol Buck of Mission Viejo, Linda Walker of Palmdale and Alan and wife Michelle Root of Ventura. Kay also had a special spot in her heart for her five great-grandchildren, Olivia Uptergrove of Mission Viejo, Tammy Mellein of Palmdale and Jaben, Madison and Patrick Root of Ventura.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb 3, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association .
