Melvin Arnold Stolp passed away Sunday (Jan. 29, 2012) at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island, MN at the age of 99.

Melvin was born in Oronoco, MN on Sept. 29, 1912 to Carl F. and Ida (Ludwitzke) Stolp, the fifth of six children. He attended elementary school in Oronoco and graduated from Pine Island High School. On July 9, 1939 he married Myra Mae Huntsinger in Oronoco. They operated the Huntsinger family dairy farm in Oronoco from 1939 to 1968 when their son, Neil and his wife Margaret, took ownership. Mel and Myra traveled abroad and spent winters in Florida making many new friends. They continued to live on the farm until failing health claimed their mobility in February 2009. Melvin was a member of the Oronoco Presbyterian Church. He was a long time member of the Coon Grove District 89 School Board, and the Oronoco Cemetery Board. In addition, he was a substitute rural mail carrier from 1970 to 1985.

Melvin is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Del) Briest of Shakopee, MN; and Sandra (nee Goldbeck) Zastrow of Oconomowoc, WI; one son, Neil (Margaret) Stolp of Oronoco; six grandsons, John (Michelle), and Paul (Teresa) Briest; Brandon (Rachel), and Todd (Jodi) Goldbeck; and David (Julie), and Bruce Stolp; ten great grandchildren, Jack and Addison Briest; Henry and Claire Briest; Madison and Tate Goldbeck; Tanner Goldbeck; Ellin, Emalie, and Grace Stolp; one sister-in-law, Helen (Wesley) Stolp; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra, on March 29, 2009; his parents; brothers, Earl, Lester, Wesley, and Dwain Stolp; Sister Lucia Carr; one granddaughter, Ellen Goldbeck; and one son-in-law, Dennis C. Zastrow.

Per Melvin's wishes, no memorial service is planned. His body will go to Mayo Clinic for the final phase of his enrollment in a study on aging, his remains will be cremated and a private burial for the immediate family will be in Oronoco Cemetery. Condolences can be sent to the family of Melvin Stolp, 3951 White Bridge Road N.W., Oronoco, MN 55960-2123. Memorials are suggested to Pine Haven Care Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
