Richard A. "Dickie" Banegas, 75 of Las Cruces entered eternal life on Monday, January 16, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Richard was bor on April 13, 1936 in San Ysidro, New Mexico to George and Angelita Banegas. Dickie, as he was fondly known, served his country honorably in the United States Navy and after his military service, he worked in the retail industry, from which he retired. Dickie was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, where he played with various choirs and participated in Our Lady of Guadalupe festivities in Tortugas. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Teresa Banegas of the family home; three daughters, Elizabeth Telles and her husband, Michael, Gloria Banegas and her husband, Chris of Las Cruces and Kathy De La O and her husband, Steve of Doña Ana; four brothers, James Banegas and his wife, Emma, Raymond Banegas and his wife, Irene of Las Cruces, Rudy Banegas and his wife, Peggy and Henry Banegas of El Paso; three sisters, Rosalie Maese of El Paso, Ernestine Lacey and her husband, Ocie of New Jersey, and Angelita O'Rourke of California. Other survivors include one granddaughter, Nicole Guerra and her husband, Andrew and two great-granddaughters, Anai Guerra and Samantha Guerra, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dickie was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, George, Ernest and Arturo Banegas. Cremation will take place and Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina Street, where the Funeral Liturgy will be held immediately thereafter. Inurnment of cremains will follow in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Columbarium. Military Honors will be accorded by a Naval Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment.
