John was the son of John and Augusta Hess. On 08 Oct 1903 he married Bertha Comley and they had two children, John, Jr., and Lorena. For most of his life John was employed in the leatherworking industry. Around the turn of the century he was a harness maker; at the time of his death he was a leather worker for a government depot. John died of a coronary occlusion.
