FORT WORTH - Florence E. "Dolly" Asher, 85, a retired Southwestern Bell Telephone operator, passed away Friday, April 5, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Arlington. The Rev. Mark Williams will officiate.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Fort Worth. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.

Florence "Dolly" Asher was a native of Nacogdoches, Texas. She moved to Forest Hill in 1950 and had lived here since. She was a telephone operator more than 38 years in Nacogdoches, Longview, Fort Hood and Fort Worth.

After her retirement she traveled extensively to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe. She was active in a wide variety of senior citizen activities, including dancing, Senior Olympics and, especially, dominoes.

She met George L. Asher and married him while he was stationed at Fort Hood during World War II. Together they had two children, a daughter, Debbie, and a son, Bill. She was a devoted mother to her children, who cherished her and who will miss her dearly.

Mrs. Asher was a member of the First Baptist Church of Forest Hill.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Mae Whitton; three former husbands; eight brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors: Daughter, Debra L. Asher of Arlington; son, Bill Asher of Fort Worth; sister, Julia Dorman of Houston; sister-in-law, Dorothy Whitton of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Wanda Whitton of Houston; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends, Earl and Nita Williams of Cleburne, Nancy and Jim Verzinski of Cleburne and Joe, Joyce and Marsha Fischer of San Antonio.
