John Washington Weant was born in Maryland February 22, 1837. On February 27, 1862, in Frederick County, to Hannah Elizabeth Miller, daughter of John W. and Elizabeth Hinea Miller. They were the parents of 8 children: Lillie Jane, Sarah Elizabeth, Harvey E, Edward Oscar, John Washington, Iva May, Annie L. and Rhoda M. Weant. John passed away August 29, 1904, in Double Pipe Creek, Carroll County, Maryland, and was buried in Haugh's Church Cemetery, Ladiesburg, Frederick County, Maryland.

"John W. Weant, a retired merchant, died at Double Pipe Creek, Carroll County, Monday night at the age of 68 years. He was confined to his bed only since Sunday noon. He successfully conducted a general store for 40 years. He was a member of the Reformed Church and all his life an ardent Democrat. He leaves a widow and the following children: Mrs. F. J. Shorb, of Double Pipe Creek; Mrs. Dr. Luther Kemp, of Uniontown; Mrs. Milton A. Koons, Harvey E. Weant, of Taneytown; Edward O. Weant, of Westminster, ex State's Attorney of Carroll County, and Misses Annie L. and Rhoda Weant, at home."
