Don Albert Hansen, age 82, of Burley, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.

Don was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Hyrum C. and Sarah Irene Searle Hansen. He received his education in Idaho Falls and was a graduate of Idaho Falls High School. He then completed his education at Idaho State University in Pocatello. Don married Marie Emily Washburn on Oct. 26, 1950, in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1954.

In 1956, Don and Marie moved to Burley, where they opened Hudson's Shoes of Burley; they later expanded their business to Boise and Ontario, Ore. Additionally, they operated Savon Shoes in Burley for several years. As a respected businessman of the Mini-Cassia community, Don served as president of the BAMA organization and was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Burley Kiwanis Club.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and had served in the Young Men's, the bishopric, Sunday school, as a ward and stake missionary, High Priest group leader and, for the past 11 years, was the Burley Stake's financial clerk. Together, with his wife, Marie, they served as church service missionaries at the employment office in Burley.

In 1958, he obtained his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying aircraft throughout his life. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing and hunting with his several dogs, and enjoyed time spent at the family cabin in Island Park. He was an avid skier and enjoyed cross-country skiing, where he was able to explore God's creations. He also enjoyed reading and was always up for a good BYU football or basketball game. However, most important to Don was his family and cherished friendships. He was a loving husband, a great father and a gentle grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Hansen of Burley; his children, Mike (Deanna) Hansen and Tina (Neil) Payne, all of Burley; five grandchildren, Jason Payne and Teneille (Jeremy) Grandstaff, all of Meridian, Tyler Payne, currently attending BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, and Brad and Cory Payne of Burley; his great-grandchildren, Jeri Ann Rasmussen, Torrence "Tori" Rasmussen, and Emmalynne, Garion and Rowan Payne, all of Meridian; and his sister, Ina (Ken) Carroll of Idaho Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harvey Hansen.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Unity LDS Church, 275 S. 250 E. of Burley. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St. in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
