Betty Biddle Stockdale, 88, of Monroeville, formerly of West Newton, died Monday, February 6, 2012, in Independence Court of Monroeville, following a lengthy illness.

She was born April 26, 1923, in Carmichaels, daughter of the late Paul William and Mary Crago Biddle.

Mrs. Stockdale was a member of Cumberland Township High School, Class of 1941.

She was a former member of West Newton United Presbyterian Church, where she served as treasurer and was an active member while her health permitted.

Mrs. Stockdale enjoyed giving of her time to help Meals On Wheels and volunteering at Westmoreland Manor Nursing Home. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved family gatherings, especially at Christmastime.

On January 17, 1953, she married Charles E. Stockdale, who died February 8, 2010.

Surviving are three sons, Gary Stockdale of Birmingham, Ala., Chad Stockdale and wife Debbie of Economy Borough and Mark Stockdale and wife Angela of Somerset; a daughter, Judy Holzapfel and husband Kris of Dawsonville, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Stacey, Kelly, Holly, Christy, Kira, Ashlee, Brad and Lisa; five great-grandchildren; a brother, William C. Biddle and wife Margaret of Fox Chapel; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, is a sister, Myrtle Atcheson.

Family and friends are welcomed from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 10, with the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
