The accident which resulted in the death of Ferry is somewhat of a mystery from the fact that the young man was found lying on the tracks of the railroad over the Fourth street bridge in an unconscious condition. He has at no time showed much improvement and his friends have been unable to learn how the accident occurred. Ferry had been at work that day and together with a number of companions was on North street early in the evening. About 9:30 o'clock three tramps found him lying between the rails on the bridge. The tramps placed his body in a safe place beside the tracks and immediately notified some young men who were but a short distance away. As Ferry's pockets were turned inside out it was for a time supposed he had been assaulted and robbed but this is probably not true. It is very likely Ferry was returning to his home on Parker street and was crossing the railroad bridge when his foot caught in one of the beams, throwing him on one of the rails in such a manner as to cut an ugly gash in the side of his head and fracture his skull. His left ankle was broken. Ferry was taken to the House of Mercy that evening.
