John Charles Lear was killed in a car accident after being thrown from the passenger seat on July 20, 1968. He was born in Monroe City, Mo Nov. 25, 1884 to Henry and Emma Eberle Lear. He came west to Montana in 1907 and to the Bitter Root in 1912. He followed the timber industry and agriculture throughout his life.

Charlie married Lillian G. Tucker June 2, 1913 at the home of her parents. Rev. R. H. Dougherty officiated. Witnesses were E. C. Littrell and E. C. Whaley. They enjoyed more than 55 happy years together.

Charlie Lear possessed a keen sense of humor and was of a kind and helpful disposition. These attributes won him many friends. He outlived most of his contemporaries but those who remain will ever remember him fondly.
