Sawnie Aldredge, the son of Civil War Veteran and prominent lawyer and judge George N. Aldredge, was elected mayor on 1921. An attorney who returned to Dallas to practice law following World War I service in the air corps, Sawnie Aldredge served as mayor while Dallas was struggling with rapid growth and the need to expand the city's inadequate water supply.
