"Mary Nellis Webster died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Chase, at Elk Creek, Wednesday, June 20, death being caused by old age and a general breaking down of the system. Mary Nellis was the daughter of the late George P. and Laney (Garlock) Nellis and was born June 3, 1832. She was married to Samuel Webster July 4, 1849, and her entire life was spent in that locality. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was always a very earnest worker in the church as long as her health permitted. She is survived by one daughter as named above, and three grandchildren, Grover Chase and Mrs. Burrell Perry of Elk Creek and W. H. Chase of Cooperstown. The funeral was held at the house Saturday, at 2 p. m., the Rev. George Summerson officiating. Interment in the Elk Creek cemetery."
