Elderly man killed in collision
MASCOTTE — A 63-year old man was killed Thursday
morning after his car crossed a median and hit a
garbage truck head on. Harold Booklall, of Fruitland
Park, died at the scene.
The crash occurred in Mascotte, near the intersection
of County Road 33 and Simon Brown Road, about 10:40 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Booklall
was traveling south on CR33 in a 1999 Mitsubishi, as
Tommy Martin, 33, was driving a 2003 garbage
truck in the opposite direction.
For an unknown reason,Booklall drifted into the
southbound lanes and struck the front of the
truck. The impact, caused Martin to run off the road,
where he struck a fence and a pole.
