James M. Alexander, age 77, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on July 20, 1932, in Kokomo, he was the son of Forest R. and Laree (Drake) Alexander. James graduated from Kokomo High School in 1950 and married Charlotte J. Cox on July 19, 1952. He worked at Smith Implements as a manager before retiring in 1999 and previously owned The Beverage Shop in Greenfield. He served in the Air Force from 1950-1954 during the Korean Conflict.

James was a charter member of the Optimist Club of Greenfield. He was a member of the American Legion, the Cushman Club of America, and of the Haines City First United Methodist Church in Florida. He loved fishing, golfing, collecting guns, and enjoyed restoring and riding Cushman scooters.

Surviving him are his children, J. Gregory (Nora) Alexander of Lexington, Kentucky, Kathy L. (Stuart) Barr of Greenfield, and John F. (Claudia) Alexander of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one brother, Harold R. Alexander.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield with calling from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Reverend Dr. John Opsata will be officiating.
