Gertrude was my Great Grandmother. She was born November 5, 1898 in Bowling Green, Missouri, the daughter of Dale P. and Anna Darnell. She was married to Claude Edward Loflin on Nov. 9, 1918. They lived in Shelbina, Mo for many years. They moved to Georgetown Tx. in 1964. She was a member of the Shelbina Methodist Church and a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She had a brother, Glen Dale Darnell, who was hit by a car and killed at the age of 10 in 1927.

Survivors include daughter, Dorthy Howard, of Barnett, Mo, son, James D. Loflin of Georgetown, Tx. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I spent many happy weekends at her house in Georgetown, Texas. We would go to Piggly Wiggly and stock up on goodies. She would make me cinnamon toast for breakfast, white bread, with butter, sugar, and cinnamon on top heated up in the oven. No toaster oven or microwave back then, and bacon sandwiches for lunch. My uncle bought her a 1969 Chevrolet Impala around 1975, and she gave it to me when she quit driving. We would go out on the local back roads and she would let me drive it when I was learning to drive. She wouldnt let me go faster than 50 mph. Mom and Dad didnt know anything about it. It was our secret.

She spoiled me rotten and I loved her dearly.

Oct. 2015 - Just got Gertrude's old Singer sewing machine out of my brothers attic. Going to get it serviced and put it to use again. Last time it was used was about 1985. I've included a picture of it set up at Dad's house. I was shocked when he offered to let me keep it there!

December 2015 - Got the machine up and running! Sewed my first item with it today. You would be proud Grandma -

Found out Grandma was given this machine for her 16th birthday, by her Dad, Dale Darnell, which would have been in 1914, the year it was made.
