BREMEN - Janet M. Abbott, 69, of Bremen, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Community Hospital of Bremen. She was born November 6, 1942, to Joseph and Angela (Zerker) VanDeKeere in Mishawaka. Janet married Ed Abbott on June 1, 1963, in Lafayette. Janet graduated from Purdue University in 1964 with a major in home economics. She was very proud to be a Boilermaker. She went on to work for Meister Drugs in Bremen and was currently employed at Jeanette's Fabric Boutique in Wakarusa. Janet loved to cook and sew, especially quilting; she has been to fabric stores all over the country. She was a volunteer leader for 4-H and taught nursery school at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen. She also enjoyed caring for her house plants and flowers. She is survived by her husband, Ed of Bremen; two sons, Jeff (Michaela) Abbott of Bremen and David (Susan) Abbott of Marietta, GA; a daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Sents of Woodstock, GA; a brother, Paul (Phyllis) VanDerKeere of Bremen; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Rosemary Smitt. A funeral service will be on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at St. Dominic Catholic Church at 10:30 AM and will be officiated by Father Bob Lengerich. Burial will be following the service at Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dominic Catholic Church or to the Community Hospital of Bremen. The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.
