Dick Arlan Anduss (1935 - 2012)

Dick Arlan Anduss died at age 76 on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at a hospital in Irving. Burial: In honor of his military service, Dick will be interred in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, 214-467-3374. No service will be held.

He was born May 7, 1935, in Newton, Kan. At age 16, he began working with the Santa Fe Railroad Co. Two years later he joined the United States Marine Corps and spent two years in Korea as a corporal during the Korean War. He returned to Newton in 1955 after his tour of duty and rejoined the railroad. One year later he was promoted to civil engineer. In 1968 he became owner/operator of the Champlin service station on West Broadway, eventually acquiring a second Champlin station on North Main Street. In 1974 he sold the service stations and founded Anduss Market in the old Antrim lumber company property on West Fifth Street (next to what is now Okerberg Park). In 1980 he moved to Irving to become regional maintenance director of Red Roof Inns. He retired in 2003 and continued living in Irving. His final years were spent at Emeritus Assisted Living in Irving.

Survivors: Brothers, Lynn Edward Anduss of Fort Collins, Colo., and Reign V. Anduss of Newton, Kan.; sons, Marc Leighton Anduss and Craig Arlan Anduss; and grandchildren, Alexander Ryan Anduss and Sarah Danielle Anduss.
