WORLD WAR I

Son of Melvin Lorenzo and Minnie Tula Ellis Edwards, husband of Isabelle Workman.

MULLINS - Ernest Gary Edwards, 56, retired teacher and farmer, died at his home here about midnight Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the home. The Rev. L. E. Pope Jr., pastor of the Macedonia Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Cedardale Cemetery.

Surviving are the widow, the former Isabelle Workman of Mayesville; one son, Gary Edwards Jr. of Mullins; three daughters, Miss Pauline Edwards and Mrs. J. T. Creighton of Mullins, and Miss Frances Edwards of Columbia College; and four sisters, Mrs. J. H. Kirby and Mrs. Tressie Pratt of Mullins, Mrs. J. D. Groome of Atlanta, Ga. and Miss Mabel Edwards of Charlotte, N.C.

Mr. Edwards was one of the most prominent farmers of this section of South Carolina and was most active and interested in the scientific phases of this work. During his lifetime he held numerous offices in agricultural organizations.

His parents were the late Melvin and Tula Ellis Edwards.

He was a Wofford graduate of 1915 and a former teacher. He served most successfully in this capacity for nearly a quarter of a century. Mr. Edwards was a veteran of World War I, having served as an ensign in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Mullins American Legion and of the Methodist church.
