DEATH OF THOMAS O'NEAL

The funeral of Thomas J. O'Neal, who died Monday after a prolonged illness at his home in Hartford, was held yesterday afternoon. Rev. F. E. Hughey, of the First Christian Church, had charge of the services and the interment was made in the Hartford Cemetery.

Thomas J. O'Neal was born in Switzerland County, Indiana, September 14, 1841. When a boy he moved with his parents to Kentucky, where he grew to manhood. He served in the Kentucky Cavalry with the Confederate army during the Civil War, returning to his home at the close of the war. In August 1863, he was married to Miss Mary Walton, and to them one son, William O'Neal, was born. The family moved to Kansas in 1876, locating first near Leavenworth. Mrs. O'Neal died in that year and Mr. O'Neal was married later to Miss Sarah A. Patton, and is survived by one daughter, Mrs. James Higbee, of Emporia. In 1883 the family moved to Hartford, where they have since resided. Mr. O'Neal was a devoted member of the Christian Church, having been in active church work during his entire life. He was a man of pleasing personality and had many acquaintances in the southeast part of the county, who were grieved to learn of his death.
