Abbeville, South Carolina May 21, 1873, Wednesday
We regret to announce the death of Mrs Eugnia Parker, the wife of our townsman, Dr Edwin Parker, after a long and painful illness at 3 o'clock yesterday morning. Our readers are familiar with the circumstances of the sad accident which suddenly prostrated her upon a bed of suffering, and brought upon her highly sensitive organization, the acute pains which medical skill and the tender care of sympathizing relatives and friends could only alleviate. Unconsciousness for a time, and finally death itself came to her relief, and brought release from the pains and sorrows of this life, and a happy entrance into the joys of the life to come. This alone in this trying hour can furnish the true ground of consolation - can assuage the pang of grief and hush the voice of sorrow.
In the large circle of relatives and friends to whom the deceased was endeared by the exercise of every womanly virtue and Christian grace - by warm sympathies and kind affable manners - she will be sadly missed - but in that inner circle of the affections, consecrated to those which are brightest in our nature, her loss is indeed irreparable. None can take the place of the beloved wife, and the idolized mother, and nought but the hope of a blissful re-union hereafter can soothe the sorrow of the parting hour.
Funeral services wee conducted in Trinity Church on yesterday afternoon in the presence of a large congregation by the Rector, Rev E R Miles, after which the body was interred in the cemetery of the Church
