Catherine "Kay" Margaret Brooks, 85, of Newton, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton. Graveside services will be at 3:30 Wednesday at Westlawn Cemetery in Newton with Rev. Fr. Al Kemme officiating.

Mrs. Brooks was born June 20, 1921 in St. Louis, the daughter of Chester Herbert and Marie Felicia (Meyer) Hammond. She married Royal L. Brooks on August 9, 1942. He survives.

She worked as a part-time cook at Bogota School and helped begin the Smallwood 4-H Club. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Newton.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Royal Brooks of Newton; sons, Ron (Barbara Ann) Brooks of Houston, Texas, John (Debbie) Brooks of Newton and David (Patty) Brooks of Newton; daughter, Linda (Gary) Klebe of Muscatine, Iowa; brother, Michael Glen Hammond of Wenatchee, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Daisy Jo Brooks; brother, John Hammond; and sister, Lucille Eilering.
