"August C. Behrens, well known German citizen has passed away." In large print, the article is dated Wednesday, 30 May 1906, Grand Rapids Press, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

"After a sickness of more than 1 1/2 years, August, one of the best known among the younger Germans of the city, died yesterday at his home."

August was born in Northeim, Hanover, Germany. "He came to America 22 years ago, going first to Manistee, where he remained 6 months with friends. He came to Grand Rapids and entered the employ of the Phoenix Furniture Company, securing work at the shop. As he had studied in the mechanical schools of Germany, he determined to become a designer. After a period of study, he became one of the companies designer's." He occupied that position until his health problems kept him from working.

August was a member of the Arbeiter society. For a number of years he served as secretary and was also president of the society.

"He is survived by his wife Anna, a nature of the same German town where he was born, whom he married in 1884 and also one son Karl August, at present, attending the University of Michigan."

The funeral was held at their home, Friday afternoon, at 2:00pm, under the auspices of the Elks.
