Robert L. Andre, 80, 0f Butler died Tuesday at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born June 5, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of Paul and Bessie Shannon Andre.
He had attended Ohio State University and had held various management jobs at Troutman's department store in Butler for 30 years until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Andre was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. he was one of the founding members of the Music and Arts Festival and the Associated Artists of Butler County, where he was a past president. He also belonged to the American Veterans Club.
He was an accomplished musician and trumpet player and a professional photographer.
During World War II, he served with the Army and received numerous Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and a medal of Honor from the French Government for the Normandy Invasion.
His wife, Charlotte E. Andre, whom he married April 25, 1946, died Feb. 7, 2005. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Karen) Fleming of Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Mrs. Wayne (Michele) Flatt of Cranberry Township and Mrs. Bruce (Charlene) Kerr of Butler; a sister, Dawn Drapp of Columbus. Five grandsons and two granddaughters also survive.
Friends of Robert L. Andre, who died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post 117 World War II Memorial, c/o the Butler County Veterans Services, P.O. Box 1208, Butler, PA 16003; or the Butler Department of Veterans Affairs-Homeless Veteran's Program, 325 New Castle Road, Butler, PA 16001.
Military honors will be performed at the cemetery by the VFW Post 249 Ceremonial Honor Guard.
