Larry Brown Brooker, 57, of Jefferson City died Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996, at his home. He was born Jan. 20, 1938, in Columbia to Donald Brown and Thelma Vaughn Brooker. His mother is the daughter of A.D. Vaughn, a lifelong resident of Iberia, and she is a graduate of the Iberia Academy. On Aug. 17, 1958, he was married in Columbia to Joyce Elaine Cottle, who survives.

Mr. Brooker was assistant division director, information systems, Missouri Department of Revenue at the time of his death. He received a degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1962 and worked with Arthur Anderson and Co. and MFA Insurance Company as a computer programmer and system analyst. In 1965 he became a CPA. In 1969 he joined Yellow Freight System where he worked for 25 years, becoming a vice president. In 1993, the data processing department under his supervision was judged one of the top 10 such departments in the U.S. transportation industry.

He was a member of the Jefferson City First Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Susan Fritz of Brenham, Tex, Lori Brooker of Olathe, Kan., and Margaret Brooker of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; two grandchildren; his parents of Columbia; and a sister, Nancy Brown Brooker Bowers of Ames, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson City First Christian Church and at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Overland Park Christian Church in Overland Park, Kan. The Rev. Larry Veatch officiated at both services. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kan., under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City.

Memorials may be made to either church or the Larry Brown Brooker Memorial Ministry Scholarship Fund at the Columbia First Christian Church.
