Washington D.C. Fire Dept., retired.

An article in the Washington Post in August of 1941 stated that he had over 27 years of service in the DCFD, the last 3 of which were served in the Fireboat Company (he was on the fireboat) when he retired. He had numerous commendations during his career including those dealing with the Knickerbocker roof collapse in 1922 and the Kanns warehouse fire 2 years later. He resided in Brentwood, Md. at that time. In that household his sons William & Emmitt also resided plus his daughter-in-law Mildred. The 1940 Census confirms this. His WW I draft card shows his birth place completely screwed up but it had been corrected by the time he got his WW II card.
