Announcement appeared in the New Brunswick weekly paper, "Christian Visitor," on 5 Dec 1883 Sisson- At Andover on the 14th inst., after short illness Rev. Elijah Sisson aged 77 years 2 months 18 days. Elijah Sisson of Andover, England, made the suggestion in 1883, that the settlement be named after this native town.Elijah Herrick Sisson was NOT born in Andover, England. Earlier accounts claiming that he was are mistaken.

Elijah Herrick Sisson was born in or near Keswick, York County, New Brunswick and was the son of James Sisson and Rebecca Welling. Elijah's paternal grandparents were Jonathan Sisson (a United Empire Loyalist) and Hulda Herrick.

As can be seen, Elijah's middle name was his paternal grandmother's maiden name.

The mistaken link to Andover, England may have arisen from the possibility that, at some point, Elijah's paternal line may have had ties to Andover, Massachusetts, which may or may not be named after Andover, England.

Elijah Herrick Sisson was a Baptist preacher, a farmer, and a lumberman. He was buried in Andover, Victoria County, New Brunswick. However, the headstone has disappeared.
