The Thursday, July 23, 1903 edition of the Anglo-Saxon [Rockingham NC] included:

Roberdel News - News was received here Monday of the death of James Edens which occurred at Roland,[Rowland] N.C. Messrs. E. B. Stogner and Robert Dobbins attended the burial Tuesday.
[Thus he likely died July 19 or 20, 1903 since burials were conducted soon after death in those days.]

The 1880 census lists him as James A. Edens
The 1900 census lists him as James Eadens
His son's 1989 NC Death record lists him as William James Edens.

Burial location per "Kinfolks", 1934 which states "James Edens" is buried in "McGirt" Cemetery. No gravestone has been found for him. However, his wife is buried in the McGirt cemetery as reported by "Kinfolks". In addition, there is a gravestone in the McGirt cemetery for her.
