It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lewis Barton Miller. "Bart." Bart, 90, of Moorpark, reunited with his beloved wife and son on Feb. 7, 2012.

A life resident of Ventura County, Bart served in the United States Army during World War II. In 1949, both he and his wife of 61 years made Moorpark their home. He immediately began to contribute his capabilities generously to all phases of family and community life.

In the 1950s, Bart helped form the Little League teams as well as the Cub Scout troops that are present in the city today. He was voted Moorpark's first "Honorary Mayor" in 1969, more than a dozen years before the city was incorporated. Bart was also an active charter member of the Moorpark Rotary Club, "Commissioner" of the Planning Commission, as well as serving on the County of Ventura Grand Jury. Bart retired as Postmaster of Moorpark and Camarillo in 1980. Peers and family alike have quoted Bart, "A True pillar of the community" as well as statements such as "I hope when I reach his age, I accomplish half the things he has, and be half the person he is." In 2003 the City of Moorpark honored a street and park to his years of dedication to community service. "Miller Parkway" and "Miller Park" will always be a constant reminder to these services rendered.

For those who have had the opportunity to encompass Bart, will always hold him close at heart, and without a doubt agree, "When they made this man they broke the mold."

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Maxine Miller of Arizona; grandson, Weston Miller; great-grandchildren, Jewel, Gracelyn, and Ty Miller; and companion of eight years, Colleen Brubaker, all of Ventura.

A graveside service will be held Feb. 15, 2012, for immediate family. A memorial service will follow for all friends and family at The Methodist Church of Moorpark at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Moorpark United Methodist Church, 261 Flory Ave., Moorpark, CA 93021.
