Second oldest of the four sons of Mabel Gene and Aubrey Leroy Bruton. His brothers were: Aubrey Leroy Bruton, Carl E Bruton, and Albert Wilkinson Bruton.

He appears with his parents in the 1920 Federal Census of Ortega, Duval County, Florida. The household included: Aubrey L. Bruton, age 36, born in Florida, an engineer on a switch engine; Mabel G Bruton, age 24, born in Ohio to Ohio parents; Aubrey L Bruton, Jr, age 2, born in Florida to a father from Florida and a mother from Ohio; and Louis E Bruton, age 1, born in Florida to a father from Florida and a mother from Ohio.

His parents divorced in 1929 in Duval County and his mother remarried a widower, Mertie Lionel Carver. Lewis remained with his mother and appears with her and his siblings, step-father and step-brother in the 1930 Federal Census of Duval County, Florida. Lewis E. Bruton, 93, died February 15, 2012. Mr. Bruton was one of 4 sons of A. L. Bruton and Mabel Gene Bruton. He was a native of Jacksonville, Florida and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the North Jacksonville Baptist Church and had retired from Carpenters Local #627. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII and was a lifetime member of V.F.W. #6922 and a longtime member of the American Legion Post #9.

Mr. Bruton was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years the late Elouise K. Bruton. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Evie Bruton; a number of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206, with Rev. Grant Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors.
