Dale H. "Fireball" Winans, 89, of Parkersburg, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at the Arbors of Marietta.

He was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Belpre, a son of the late Porter Dana and Helen M. Kesterson Winans. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and had worked for Union Carbide for 29 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Camden Avenue Church of Christ.

Dale is survived by his children, Gary Wayne Winans and Sharon of Washington, W.Va., Dale Harold Winans and Shirley of Decatur, Ill., Linda Deem and Roger of Belton, Texas, and Sheila Conner and Ralph of Parkersburg; one sister, Betty Jean Stephens of Whitefish, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie "Irene" Winans; an infant daughter; four brothers; and three sisters.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Dana Slingluff officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
