Mr. James Owens was born October 9, 1922 in Kerens, Texas to the union of Mr, and Mrs. Owens. He accepted Christ at an early age in Texas.
He came to California in 1968 and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy. Mr. Owens moved to Fresno, California in 1972. He met Eliza Williams in 1974 and later took her as his wife in 1979. He united with Providence Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. Reuben Scott.
Mr. Owens remained happily married until God made other plans for him. James will be best remembered for the significant contribution he made to his fraternal organizations. He was a member of King Solomon Lodge #6, F.& A.M. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Consistory #303 where he served as Standard Barer. He was a member of Saphar Temple #117 and served as Potentate for one term, he also served as Tuxedo Cedar Club President, and last but not least, he was a member of the American Legion Post #509.
Mr. James Lee Owens departed this life on December 14, 1992. Those who will miss him most are: his beloved wife, Eliza Owens; his daughters, Doris Austin-Owens, both of Fresno, Gloria Jackson of Oakland, CA; three sisters, Clara Newlon of Fresno, Eron K. Summers of Oklahoma City, OK, June Sharp of Tulsa, OK; three brothers, L.C. Owens of Denver, CO, Andrew McMurry of Pahrump, NV, and Travis Owens of Texas; one goddaughter, Pat Crockett of Fresno, CA; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
