Mrs. Reuben H. Whitcher (Alice I. Pugh), 83, died in a Salinas hospital last night after a long illness. She was a native of the Fairview District on River Road near Gonzales and lived there all of her life.
In addition to her husband of the family home she is survived by two brothers, Weaver W. and Samuel R. Pugh, also of the Fairview District, and a sister, Mrs. Daisy Kelly, Gonzales. Her parents were pioneer residents of the Salinas Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel O. Pugh.
Mrs. Whitcher was a member of the American Legion Post No. 81, auxiliary; the Mission Circle and the Mite Society, all of Gonzales.
Final rites are pending and will be announced tomorrow by Struve and Laporte Funeral Home. (The Californian, Salinas, CA, November 15, 1967)
