She was the mother of three children, Steven and Kathryn Givens and Cindy Gibson. All of the children were raised in the Fort Collins area before moving away. Sandy moved to Fenton DE to be near her daughter Cindy and her family.
She was diagnosed with throat cancer in the mid 1990s and had surgery that left her with partial speech. She lived many healthy years until the cancer returned around 2005 in her lung. She had treatment for it and it was in remission until she developed lymphoma.
Her ashes were scattered up the hill from the old farm near Horsetooth Reservoir and around Estes Park by her family.
