EDENTON - Clara Mae Byrum Evans, 74, of the 3300 block of Rocky Hock Road, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996, in Chowan Hospital.
Mrs. Evans was born in Chowan County. The daughter of the late George and Mrs. Doris Outland Byrum, she was a homemaker and a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, the Oak Grove Home Demonstration Club and a former 4-H Leader.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Marvin L. Evans; two daughters, Judy Evans Hollowell of Newport News, Janie Evans Bass of Virginia Beach; four sons, Leon Evans, Don E. Evans, Jimmy Evans, all of Edenton, Lewis B. Evans of Hertford; a sister, Mary E. Roberson of Tyner; three brothers, Velvo Byrum of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Leon W. Byrum and Eugene E. Byrum, both of Tyner; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Cava. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and all other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center Hill-Cross Roads Fire Dept.; the Edenton-Chowan Rescue Squad, Unit 3; or the Parkinson Disease Foundation.
