A. Jean Hughes, 79, of Independence, MO, passed away, December 10, 2003 after a long battle with leukemia. Jean was born in Deerfield, MO on July 5, 1924 to Walter and Lena Mitchell. She attended Southwest Baptist College and later married Roland L. Hughes of Independence, MO on December 10, 1942. She worked for many years at the Chrisman-Sawyer Bank in Independence. After leaving the bank she worked with Roland as a salesperson at the Fitness Showcase store in Kansas City, MO. She was a longtime member of 1st Christian Church of Independence. She is preceded in death by both her parents, three brothers, Wayne, Gale and Bob and by one son Gary. She is survived by her husband, Roland, their son, Kelly, and his wife Pam of Lenexa, KS; two grandchildren, Andrew Lynn of Overland Park, KS and Jamie Hughes of Lenexa, KS, a nephew Fred Mitchell of Deerfield, MO. Jean was a woman of the sweetest Christian spirit who will be missed greatly by her family and friends. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday December 15, 2003 at the Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 W. 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the First Christian Church of Independence, the Family Life Center at Lenexa Baptist Church or to the church or synagogue of choice.
