Civil War Veteran - Enlisted on September 16, 1861, and mustered on October 15, 1861, into Company G, 11th Regiment, Iowa Infantry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private. The 11th Regiment was organized at Davenport, Iowa, from September 28 to October 18. 1861. Ordered to St. Louis, Mo., November 1. Attached to Dept. of Missouri to March 1862.

The Regiment moved to Jefferson City, Mo., in November 1861, and duty there till March 1862. Expedition to Booneville December 8, 1861, and to Providence and Booneboro December 14. Moved to Pittsburg Landing, Tenn., March 10, 1862.

Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Battle of Shiloh (April 6-7, 1862); Battle of Atlanta (July 22, 1864); Sherman's March to the Sea (November 15 – December 21, 1864).

Surrender of Johnston and his army. March to Washington, D. C., via Richmond, April 29-May 20. Participated in the Grand Review of the Armies of the Union on May 24, 1865. Moved to Louisville, Ky., in June.

Mustered out of service July 15, 1865, at Louisville, Kentucky.

Filed for Invalid Pension on July 18, 1875 (Application No. 205956).
