Mr. John Richard Alford, age 76, died Sunday morning in a Pensacola Hospital. Mr. Alford was a native of Geneva, Alabama and had been a resident of DeFuniak Springs most of his life. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lydia Alford, of DeFuniak Springs; seven daughters, Frances A. Clary of DeFuniak Springs, Jeanette Gavins and Shirley L. Holley of DeFuniak Springs, Adelaide Lawrence of Tampa, Florida, Carol M. Rowe of Pikesville, Kentucky, Margaret A. Shaw of Fort Walton Beach, and Sarah A. Townsend of Ocala, Florida; two sons, Edgar L. Alford of Jasper, Texas, and Adrian Alford of San Diego, California; five brothers, Houston Alford, Weldon Alford, and Eddie Alford, all of Samson, Alabama, Cecil Alford of Foley, Alabama, and Buster Alford of St. Louis, Missouri; three sisters, Sarah Adams of Crestview, Ruth Aplin of Samson, Alabama, and Runell Danley of Opp, Alabama, and 21grandchildren. Services were conducted at 2:30 Wednesday from the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Reverend Marcus Marshall and Reverend Glenn Adkinson officiating. Clary-Godwin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
