Horrible Death. - Charles Kirby, son of Philip Kirby, living at Spokane Falls, Stevens County, Washington Territory, met a shocking death while in the employ of Mr. J. H. Wells on the Palouse. He was thrown from a horse while out on the hills. His foot caught in the stirrup, the animal dragging him nearly a mile. breaking his neck and mutilating the poor fellow almost beyond recognition.

September 5, 1876 - Walla Walla Union

Charles Kirby, son of Philip Kirby, living at Spokane Falls, Stevens County, Washington Territory, met a shocking death while in the employ of Mr. J. H. Wells on the Palouse. He was thrown from a horse while out on the hills. His foot caught in the stirrup, the animal dragging him nearly a mile. breaking his neck and mutilating the poor fellow almost beyond recognition.
