Eli was 59 years old and a son of John L and Nora Cooper Armstrong, both pioneering residents of Randolph County. He had been in bad health for about five years.
Surviving are his wife the former Lucy Kate Warner, two sons, John L. and Ronald L., three daughters, Phoebe Simmons, Mary Ruth Wimer, and Amy Lou Weber.
Burial was in the Cooper Cemetery.
