ATLANTA. Oct. 11- (AP) The Rev. Joseph Pruitt Wardlaw, 82, a Confederate veteran, the oldest member of the South Georgia conference and a distinguished minister of the Methodist Episcopal church, South, for 60 years, died today at a local hospital.

Mr. Wardlaw was born in Walker County, Georgia, December 12, 1947. He was educated in the schools of that county and at Emory College and later served on the Emory board of trustees for 25 years. Following his graduation from college he became a member of the North Georgia conference in December 1870, and in 1872 was transferred to the South Georgia conference, retiring from active duty as a pastor at his own request in November. 1924.

He was married Dec. 24. 1874, to Miss Anna Coachman of Valdosta and to them were born six children, three of whom survive. Mrs. Wardlaw died April 12, 1912.

He was married again January 10. 1917, to Mrs. Frances Wynne Pound, of Cordele, who died November 3 last year.

The three children surviving are J. C. Wardlaw, Athens, W. C. Wardlaw, Miami, Fla.. and Mrs. Malcolm M. Lookhart of Decatur and Philadelphia.


W. C. Wardlaw., 2970 S. W 13th St., said he and his family would attend the funeral of his father in Americus at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow. Mr. Wardlaw is connected with the realty firm of C. H. Reeder.
