World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy. On March 27, 1942, in the attack on St. Nazaire, France, Able Seaman Savage was a pom pom gunner in a MGB 314 Gun Boat. He engaged the enemy positions ashore, shooting with great accuracy although he had no gun-shield and was in a most exposed position. He continued firing with great coolness until he was killed at his gun. For most prestigious gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
