DIES AT GREAT AGE OF 86

Was One of Founders of Madison Patriot - Served as Legislator and University Regent - Sketch of His Life

Major Horace A. Tenney, an old time editor and lawyer of Madison, died at his country home, west of Madison on the Middleton road at 3 o'clock this morning, aged 86 years.

In 1842, he published the "Lorain Republican" at Elyria, Lorain county, Ohio, and in 1843, was elected prosecuting attorney of the county. December 6, of the same year, he married Juliette Chaney, daughter of Charles and Susan Chaney, of Elyria.

Mr. Tenney had eight children four of whom are living, they being Charles Kent Tenney of Madison, Mrs. J.R. Simms of Racine, Horace A., who is at home, and Arthur R., who resides in Oregon. The dead are Mrs. Ann Eliza Jackson, wife of Col. Chas. Jackson of the 18th Wis., George A., who died in Madison, Wm. H., who was connected with the Milwaukee Sentinel and at the time of his death was with the Rocky Mountain News, and Ida Frances who died at St. Louis. The mother died 22 years ago.
