George Hill Hastings was the son of Thomas Horace Hastings and Edith (Brown) Hastings. His mother died when he was three years old. He and two brothers were raised by his mother's sister, Bell (Brown) Pusey and her husband Dr. Robert B. Pusey. Their home in Elizabethtown, Kentucky is now known as the Brown-Pusey House.
Hill Hastings married first on October 23, 1907 his second cousin, Miss Mary Garvin Brown, daughter of George Garvin and Amelia Bryan (Owsley) Brown. They had one child, Robert Pusey Hastings.
Hill then married Helen Morodoff Newlin on February 3, 1915 in Los Angeles County, California. Children of this union were Thomas Newlin Hastings, Helen Hadley Hastings and Edith Hill Hastings.
